Auckland, New Zealand was the first major city to welcome the start of the New Year

The New Year has officially begun, with hundreds of thousands taking to the streets to watch dazzling fireworks and join lively celebrations in the UK.

As the New Year dawned, fireworks boomed and crackled in different cities of the country while party-goers sang, hugged and danced.

New Zealand and Australia were the first countries to usher in the New Year 2018. Both the countries welcomed the year 2018 amidst spectacular fireworks.

In Auckland, New Zealand’s biggest city, tens of thousands gathered around Sky Tower as five minutes of nonstop pyrotechnics exploded from the structure’s upper decks.

Festivities have begun around the world as revellers cheered the advent of the New Year, with Australia, New Zealand and Japan being some of the first countries to bid farewell to 2017.

Huge crowds braved arctic conditions to usher in 2018 in New York while revellers in Rio de Janeiro partied on the beach for the countdown to midnight.

In London, more than 100,000 ticket-holders gazed up at stunning fireworks from the banks of the River Thames, before dancing to ‘Auld Lang Syne.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted that in London “we celebrate our diversity and strive for equality”.

People in Pakistan celebrated New Year’s Eve with traditional passion and zeal. Tremendous celebrations were seen in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and other cities.

Spectacular feats of fireworks at Bahria town Icon Tower in Karachi, Bahria’s Eiffel tower in Lahore and Bahria Enclave in Islamabad were the most prominent of all celebrations held across the country.

Musical concerts were arranged at a number of places across the countries to celebrate New Year’s night which was attended by youngsters in a very large number.
