World’s richest woman Liliane Bettencourt passed away, left a fortune of $44.7 billion

Liliane Bettencourt was also world’s 14th richest person, died  at the age of 94

World’s richest woman Liliane Bettencourt died  at the age of 94. French businesswoman Liliane was ranked the richest woman in the world with a fortune of $39.5 billion last year.

Her daughter Bettencourt-Meyers announced a statement said, “Liliane Bettencourt died this night at home. She would have been 95 on October 21, My mother left peacefully “.

The billionaire Bettencourt family currently owns 33% of the L’Oreal Group, include famous brands like Lancome, Garnier and La Roche-Posay.

According to forbes her estimated wealth in 2017 was of $40bn, which makes her the world’s 14th richest personality.

In a statement, L’Oréal chairman and CEO Jean-Paul Agon expressed his condolences to the family and said: “We all had a deep admiration for Liliane Bettencourt who always looked after L’Oréal, the company and its employees, and who was very attached to its success and development.

Liliane Bettencourt was born in Paris,  she was the only child of Louise Madelaine Berthe and Eugene Schueller, who founded L’Oreal. Bettencourt joined her father’s company when she was just of 15 years, before inheriting the empire when her father died in 1957.

She was hardly ever seen in public since she left the board of the French company in 2012, and was replaced by her grandson amid a bitter legal dispute with her daughter, who argued Bettencourt mentally good to handle her own affairs.

During scandal, when Bettencourt-Meyers sought legal action to have her mother declared unable of handling her own affairs, the heiress gave a numbers of aggressive interviews in which she told her daughter to mind her own business.

“My life is my life,” Liliane Bettencourt told one French TV station.

During the harsh situation, she participate, attending L’Oreal strategy meetings and dining with members of France’s political and business elite, according to Arnaud Bizot, a journalist who interviewed her for Paris Match.

During Bettencourt’s lifetime, L’Oreal has grown into a global beauty giant, hire 89,300 people worldwide.company sales $28.58 billion in sales in 2016 and has 34 beauty brands in its portfolio, including Kiehl’s, IT Cosmetics and Maybelline.
